Spring Semester 2021

You’ve officially made it to the end of this semester, Bobcats! Spring 2021 was one that held a lot of special memories and milestones for Texas State that you may have forgotten about. Between a hectic academic school year, the COVID-19 pandemic, and a historic winter storm, it’s safe to say there were a lot of things dividing everyone’s attention this semester. Despite the adversities we faced together as a community, there are still so many reasons to celebrate this chapter! What better way to celebrate the end of another school year than a recap of some of the best memories from the semester? LBJSC has done just that!

Gaillardia Fest

This school year the 3rd annual Gaillardia Fest took place, and it was a blast! This event is a special Texas State tradition that replaced Riverfest, a festival held annually for 16 years at Sewell park that included live music and tubing down the river. In 2019, Texas State decided to update the festival to be more inclusive for everyone in the San Marcos community and promote school spirit by naming it after our school’s flower. This year’s festival was one for the record books, with tons of games, giveaways, and a photo booth to document all the memories being made. This was one of the largest in person events that took place this semester, and it was all thanks to the Student Association for Campus Activities who organized the event. After being postponed due to inclement weather, their team came together to create an amazing experience that many will never forget!

Texas State’s First Vaccination event

Texas State’s first vaccination event was held right here in the LBJSC ballroom! Almost exactly a year since COVID-19 was declared a pandemic by the WHO, our campus was able to provide hundreds of faculty and staff their first dose of the Pfizer vaccine on March 12th. This was a monumental day that signified hope and progress in the fight against COVID-19. Since then, Texas State has vaccinated hundreds of students, staff, and San Marcos residents and organized a community vaccination event to prepare for the return to in-person classes next semester. For more information about how you can register to get vaccinated, where to get tested, or what to expect from the fall semester, please check out President Trauth's updates!

Opening of LBJ Marketplace

This semester the LBJ Marketplace opened for all Bobcats to enjoy. The second-floor dining area introduced many new food options, including Burger 512 and Global Evolution. With new signature sandwiches and a rotating menu of global cuisine, the student center was able to elevate their dining experience to a whole new level. Next semester you can look forward to the new food pick-up station, where you can order your meal in advance and grab it from the locker kiosk. If you haven’t stopped by to try it out yet, don’t fret! The student center will be open throughout the summer so you can taste some of the delicious options available to you next fall.

That’s a wrap, Bobcats! If there are some highlights you think made this semester great, please share and tag us on our social channels @LBJSC. Don’t forget to follow for more updates about what’s going on at the student center!
